The programme "HALOSTAR - Hanover School for Laser, Optics and Space-Time Research" at Leibniz Universität Hanover (LUH) is funded within the Lower Saxony PhD Programme. The aim of the PhD programme is to educate a new generation of researchers with a broad interdisciplinary knowledge of the rapidly growing fields of quantum technologies, photonics, laser physics and gravitation. The PhD programme is made possible by the unique scientific environment in Hanover produced by the close collaboration between the institutes of Leibniz Universität Hanover and various external partners.

HALOSTAR accepts students at different stages:

  • With a bachelor’s degree:    
    Where they are introduced to a combined master’s and doctorate programme
  • In the 3rd semester of a master’s degree:  
    Where they complete a combined master’s and doctorate programme
  • With a master’s degree:     
    Where they complete a doctorate programme

The education provided in the context of this PhD programme takes in the entire range of quantum physics, light and space-time research in experiment, theory and mathematical principles.
